What happens if I don't deposit for a year?
The account becomes inactive. You can revive it by paying ₹50 penalty per year of default along with the minimum deposit of ₹250 for each year.
Can I open SSY accounts for two daughters?
Yes, you can open a maximum of 2 SSY accounts - one for each girl child. In case of twins/triplets born after the first child, you can open 3 accounts with approval.
When does the account mature?
The account matures 21 years from the date of opening. For example, if opened when the girl is 5 years old, it will mature when she turns 26.
Can I close the account before maturity?
Premature closure is allowed only in exceptional cases like life-threatening illness of the girl child or death of the guardian. Otherwise, the account runs for 21 years.
Where can I open an SSY account?
You can open SSY account at any post office or authorized branches of banks like SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis Bank, PNB, etc. Visit with your girl child's birth certificate and your KYC documents.
